SATURDAY 5/5
CACOPHONY 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY: SMEGMA, SOUP PURSE, DISJUNCT, ARGUMENTIX, REDGLAER, REDBIRD, JAY BLOHM, DUDE WAR, SHITTY VIBE SMASHER, THE BETTER TO SEE YOU WITH, A MINORITY OF ONE, BEHALF, SCARD
[NOISE] After two years, Cacophony is perhaps a little less cacophonous in spirit. What with the move from performing in a borderline squatters’ space to the sheen of Someday Lounge (even though they are, technically, in the same space--just in different time periods). But this doesn’t mean the monthly night is doing less to drill holes in your skull with sound disorder. Believe it or not, "noise" has standards of quality, and the night--open to just about anyone with the ability to make feedback--has seen the occasional hack. More often, though, Cacophony’s music is closer to the classic free improv of old-timers Smegma, the 5-minute bursts of tortured wailing and squall from Behalf, and the claustrophobic grind metal from the Better to See You With, all of whom are playing tonight’s anniversary show. MICHAEL BYRNE. Someday Lounge. 8 pm. $8. 21+.
