Food Hole | 20 NW 3rd Ave., [ELECTRONICA] Pulse Emitter is a Portland-based one-man band that describes its sound as "cosmic fear noise." That's a pretty fitting description for the chaos that music and computer-science degree-bearing composer Daryl Groetsch creates with his collection of modular synthesizers—those mammoth, old-fashioned machines played by plugging and unplugging a wall of little wires, much like telephone operators used to do. Pulse Emitter's brand-new Snip-Snip release, Magma, is a molten murk of throbbing sounds befitting its name. DAVE CLIFFORD.
