PSYCHOPOMP: Music and Ritual
A performance series occurring monthly in Portland, OR
There is no audience and there is no performer.
The sound is your body and the movement induced by the sound. A monthly negation of the distinctions between music/ noise, ritual/art, ritual/dance, madness/enlightenment, here/beyond, individual/environment, spirit/flesh. A convergence of DJ'd and live performances of archaic folk musical traditions, electronic emanations, ecstatic dance, atavistic percussion, performance art, noise, butoh, death trance, ritual performance, metal, dark ambient meditations, frenzied cacophonies, dying machinery giving voice with its last cries to the forces that animate all things. A dance party in the space between all spaces. Psychopomp is no particular genre, group, or theme, but simply a means to go beyond.
